Some of my research has led me to conduct field work in West Africa. I worked with Claire Adida and Alex Verink on how different groups can coexist and jointly field competitive political candidates. We ran a survey experiment and used observational data to demonstrate how political candidates can blur lines between otherwise politically distinct ethnic groups and cultivate support widely by emphasizing not only their own multiethnic backgrounds, but that of their spouse as well.

Understanding firsthand the types of issues that can come up in the design and implementation of experiments has also helped shape and move my work in political methodology forward.
